About

Esther Ligthart

35+ years in the international jewelry industry

Jewelry has been part of my professional life for more than three decades. From artisan ateliers in Valenza, Italy, to working with brands, tradeorganisations, and professionals across the international jewelry industry, I have built my perspective from within the field itself.

As a consultant and storyteller, I help both professionals and jewelry lovers see jewelry and the industry behind it  with greater clarity and depth.

Experience

A perspective shaped from within the industry

I did not enter the jewelry world as an observer. I worked my way through it over more than 35 years, across multiple roles and environments.

A defining part of my journey was spent in Valenza, Italy, one of the world’s most important jewelry centers. Working closely with craftsmen, designers, and traders, I developed a deep understanding of jewelry beyond its appearance. Not just how it looks, but how it is made, what it represents, and the decisions behind it.

Over time, my work expanded across the international jewelry industry, from retail and buying to brand representation, consulting, journalism, and editorial work. This combination of roles has given me a broad and practical understanding of the industry from different perspectives: creative, commercial, and human.

That experience continues to shape how I approach every project and every story.

Expertise

Where craftsmanship, storytelling, and strategy meet

My work focuses on the intersection of technical understanding and narrative clarity.

  • Heritage & Brand Narrative
Translating the history of jewelry houses and designers into relevant and contemporary stories.
  • Craftsmanship & Technical Execution
Analyzing how jewelry is made, from traditional Valenza goldsmithing to modern production techniques.
  • Symbolism & Iconography
Interpreting the deeper meaning behind jewelry design, with a particular focus on animal motifs.
  • Industry Strategy
Understanding the commercial dynamics of the global jewelry market, from buying behavior to positioning and trends.

A particular area of interest is animal-themed jewelry. Across cultures and periods, animals have been used to express identity, power, protection, and mythology. This perspective allows me to connect design, symbolism, and market relevance in a way that resonates with both collectors and professionals.

Perspective

My perspective

On jewelry

I do not look at jewelry as products to promote. I look at them as objects to understand.

What is visible is rarely the full story. Behind every piece lies craftsmanship, decisions, compromises, intention, and meaning.

I am not drawn to hype or empty promotion. I am drawn to substance.

This also means I do not separate high-end from affordable in the way the industry often does. Some of the most interesting pieces are not the most expensive ones, they are the ones with character.

On storytelling

Storytelling is often treated as decoration. For me, it is a way of understanding.

Jewelry is never only about the object. It is about identity, memory, emotion, craftsmanship, and context.

When those layers are ignored, jewelry becomes just another product.
When they are understood, it becomes something much more meaningful.

Bizzita

An independent platform for jewelry storytelling

I founded Bizzita in 2013 out of a clear observation. Too many stores were offering the same commercial brands, while a world of remarkable designers and makers remained largely unseen.

Bizzita became a place to share that broader perspective.

Today, it is an independent platform where craftsmanship, storytelling, and industry insight come together. It is a space for:

  • Curated jewelry brands, from iconic maisons to hidden gems
  • Stories behind makers and designers
  • Insights into gemstones, materials, and design
Thoughtful perspectives on trends and the jewelry industry
  • A more personal perspective on jewelry

I aim to create content that feels deeper, warm and honest. My goal is simple: not just to show jewelry, but to help people see it differently.

Personal

A personal note

I am endlessly curious about what moves people.

Why one piece feels special and another does not.
Why some stories stay with us.
Why craftsmanship can create emotion.

I live in the Dutch countryside with my family and enjoy cooking, long walks with my dog, and time with friends and family.

That same curiosity carries through everything I do.
